“…that My name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”
At Harwood Terrace, we believe that Scripture gives a clear model for missions in Acts 1:8:
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8 ESV)
Our missions efforts begin at home- we start here in Bedford, then expand further and further outward, to our state, our nation, and the furthest reaches of the globe. Through this model, our missions are divided into three distinct areas of influence with different target populations, but all with the same goal: to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The first of these areas of influence is here at home, in our “Jerusalem.” Our immediate outreach combines both ongoing evangelistic efforts and event evangelism in order to serve our community’s needs both spiritually and physically. Practically, this takes the form of adopting our local elementary school, regular outreach, periodic community events at the church, and finding ways to invest as individuals into our community.
In the next area of influence, our country as a whole, our efforts have been focused on planting churches in areas of the country that desperately need the light of the Gospel. Currently we are partnering with TrueVine church in Revere, Massachusetts, both financially and by sending teams to Revere to help them better serve their community and spread the Gospel in the greater Boston area.
The final area of influence is the international stage. While we do pursue short-term mission work overseas, our primary method of reaching the world population is through prayer and financial support of long-term missionaries in places around the globe, ranging from Central Asia to South America.
Through this lens of ever-expanding areas of influence, we seek to be faithful to Jesus’ final words in the book of Matthew:
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20 ESV)
